SingTel's (& other co's) Mechanical Service

SingTel: "You're Mr. ....."
You:"Tan"
SinTel: "MR TAN! .......................................
MR TAN! ....................
...............MR TAN!.............
MR TAN!.................
.................MR TAN!...................."

This is SingTel's typical mechanical service when you calll them.
It also happens in other companies.
In trying to give 'good service' by using your name, they:
1. Overuse your name
2. Misuse it by treating it like a punctuation mark
3. Misuse it by calling your name in an insincere tone - as if as long your name is there, the tone doesn't matter.

I've endured this service enough to have to write in my blog.
The service is not only mechanical,
it's also unnatural.
Apart from using your name,
sometimes, all other things waid are not in a good tone of voice.
I've become real fed up of this.
The next time, I'll not give them my name or surname
so that nobody can abuse it. So be it!

I've not blogged for quite some time.
I now re-discover its carthartic effect!
What a joy!!!

To my friendster friends who read this, welcome!

NTU and Foreign Talents

NTU professor Ngoi was acquitted over giving false information to the authorities.

Prof Wang Jian Liang is accused in court of dangerous driving causing a person to jump off his bicycle to save his own life, and spitting at the person.

A certain neuroscientist/neurologist was accused of conducting test on patienets without their consent.

2 Ministry of Education scholars were fined for fighting.

These have tarnished the image of NTU, MOE, and Singapore.

Foreign talents need to have good moral values besides academic talents. Those who violate the law of Singapore certainly needs to be punished. Those who're immoral may have their services terminated.

Help the Needy in Singapore!

Our Government is reputed to be efficient in our management of the country. We’ve managed the communists. We’ve managed the secret societies. We’ve managed improper conduct of certain opposition party members. We’ve managed the turf club, legal soccer betting, and Singapore pools well. We’ve managed to overcome the oil crisis in the ‘70’s, the stock market crash in the ‘80’s, and the Asian currency crisis of the ‘90’s. Sars in 2003, terrorism, and even preparation for a possible flu pandemic are all well managed.

And we’ll be able to manage any misuse of the casinoes that are goiing to be built. Yet, when it comes to give some welfare for some needy people, we can’t manage any abuse of the welfare.

Is it because we can’t – or because we don’t want to? Will giving some welfare lead to a welfare state or welfarism?

When there's a heart, there's a will.
When there's a will, there's a way.

We emphasise ‘self-help’ which is well and good. Yet, what about those we can’t help themselves? Then, ‘self-help’ means ‘no help’. And if there’s ‘no help’, why is the Government elected? Only to help the rich, the gifted, and the able-bodied?

Have some welfare for some people will not lead to a welfare state just as having gamblers in two casinoes will not lead to a gambling state.

I'm sure the government is doing great things to achieve a better Singapore. Yet, for now, there’re those who have no more money to live on and commit suicide! (e.g. The man jumped to his death onto the MRT tracks at Chinese Garden MRT station.)

Ladies Above 35, and of No More Value?

Ivy Lee, 42, divorced, who appeared in the Straits Times recently, could not get a date even at dating centres. She is very attractive and is a self-made millionaire.

A woman's value doesn't just depend on her looks. It's also about her character and how she relates to a man. Most men want somebody below 35 because the chances of her having a child is higher, and safer. Above 35, the chances of having Down's Syndrome is greatly increased.
Even though there're test to detect Down's Syndrome, it's not foolproof.

Women look for lots of love in a marriage while men need more submission from their women. A woman who's too successful might be perceived as one who's less likely to be submissive at home - regardless of the truth. Men feel intimidiated, generally speaking. Those who're equally or more successful than her would have been married long ago.

Reversal: Sometimes, these women will find men who're not successful comparable. The reason is, the woman doesn't need a successful man. She is successful. All she needs is companionship and love. After all, opposites attract i.e. the successful and the unsuccessful attracts.

Hatred and Dislike

When you hate or dislike somebody, the sight of the person and any sound of the person is unpleasant to you. The way he looks, the way he sounds, and the way he slams the door, are all unpleasant. You want to do something to the person to offset this unpleasantness. You feel the person is horrible and terrible.

It's not to good to hate. Therefore, a little dislike will do. Yet dislike has the same effect mentioned above. So what can one do?

By the way, blogging seems addictive. You feel the withdrawal symptoms when you don't blog.

Only 'Mild' illness-It's Nothing!

Some people misreads the word 'mild'.

A 'mild' Stroke is not mild if you get it.
A 'mild' heart attack is not mild if you get it. A 'mild' diabetic condition is not mild if you get it.
'Mild' osteoporosis is not mild.

1st stage cancer is certainly not 'mild'.
'Mild' asthma can kill.

A common cold is only common when others get it.

I was really angry with my old inflexible private doctor when she said my problem were only very 'mild'. If the old hag could take my place and get my 'mild' problems, she would know that they're not that mild after all. Oh God! Enlighten her, oh please! Have a heart for her patients. Her patients are not robots. They're humans with a heart, a soul, and a mother! Amen!

Oh my dear doctor! When will you ever learn? God speak to you tonight.

singaoreans most unhappy in asia-survey

singapore is tops again. this time for the wrong reasons-top for being the most unhappy people in asia.

this' food for thought.

why is this so? we're among the richest!

Situation has changed

I called my old friend. asked for his home tel no.
didn't give. only gave mobile.

I felt rejected.

learnt from the radio -
not to ask too much about friends' private matters.
not to use much of their time.

he iniated to end conversation. that's ok. next time, i'll speak less, to the point, and initiate to hang up.

singaporeans are busy people. c-; well, I got to go, I'm very busy too - because I'm also a Singaporean.

The Gospel of Judas

If Jesus told Judas to betray him, then why did Judas commit suicide?

This gospel needs to be further examined.

Da Vinci Code

Was Jesus married?
Mary Magdalene bore children for Jesus?
Was John a homosexual?
U must be kidding.
Another money-spinning tactic.
A box-office hit!
The author and film-makers are laughing their way to the bank! HoHoHo..................!

The Reality of Chrisitianity

Christianity is very well preached bt not so well practised.

There is certainly some practice. Yet, it doesn't justify the amt of time spent on church-going.

Once a week of corporate worship to God, 1 cell group, 1 ministry, with daily worship of God and daily practice of the Bible is sufficient.

According to Jesus in Matthew 7, the end of knowledge is practice, practice, and more practice. Unfortunately, the state of the church (esp. traditionaly ones) today is end seems to be on accuracy of knowledge, knowledge, and more knowledge.

Therefore, whn u look at some ppl, their knowledge is impressive! Yet, whn u get to know the person, the behaviour is no different fm a hooligan. i.e. Chrisitian Hooligans.

Of course, there'r true Saints in the church as well.

God is real. The Bible is His word. Yet, many churches have too much church politics that waste your time.

Some do good deeds and behave well in church becos dey wan2 be voted as Deacons and Elders of the church. It strengthens their status and position in the community.

When u don't need help, dey wan2 'help' (dey hav their own agenda). Whn u need help, dey don't wan2 help ... (it's not in line with thier agenda, goals, and plans).

Nevertheless, there'r genuine ppl around.

Tithing n Pledging

Tithing was mentioned in the Bible.

But whr was 'pledging' (declare how much u'll give 2 the church 4 say, 1 year) mentioned in the Bible? Whatever reasons the church says r human reasons. They'r not Biblical.

Worried abt funds?
The Bible said, "Don't worry abt what u shall eat, what u shall wear, or what u shall drink."
Need 2 do planning?
The church can plan basing on estimates and past history. The church need 2 live BY FAITH!

Give, Give, Give

When this church needs money, dey keep asking u 2 give freely. When people r in need, dis church doesn't give freely even when asked.

This church says when u give, u'r giving 2 God. That's true.
Dis church doesn't remember that whn it gives 2 ppl, it's also giving 2 God!

'As much as u'v done 2 these little ones of mine, u'v done it 4 me.'! ......................Book of Matthew

Infant 'Baptism'

Whr did the Bible ever speak of Infant 'Baptism'?
Was Jesus ever baptised as an infant?

Some churches hv great arguments on this - even by PhD's in Theology. Yet, dey'r nt convincing. The reasons r just nt Biblical.

Da Vincci Code

Jesus was married?
John was a homosexual? Dan Brown must be kidding.

Gospel of Judas (year-HOO-der)

If Jesus told Judas to betray him, why did Judas need to commit suicide?

This Gospel is intriguing and needs to be studied further to find out what message it was really conveying.

"Vote by Faith!"

During church elections of Elders and Deacons, christians are often told to do that. i.e. simply say 'yes'.

If that's the case, the meaning of voting becomes meaningless. When it comes to voting, the correct attitude is this: "VOTE BY WISDOM"

A chinese saying goes, "When the upper beam is not straight, the lower beam will be crooked."

When a church has the wrong leaders in place, the wrong leaders will lead the people astray...

Submission

Leaders of a church want people to submit to them. Often Romans 13 is quoted.

However, leaders forgot that the Bible also said, "Submit to ONE ANOTHER out of reverence for CHRIST."

Submission is not a one-way traffic. It's mutual.

What's submission? It's meeting the needs of one another in different forms.

Husbands need submission in the form of obedience from the wife. So, wives, do obey your husbands unless they're obviously wrong. Wives need submission in the form of love from husbands. So, husbands, never forget to frequently affirm and demonstrate your love to your wives.

Leaders of churches need obedience. So, obey unless you think they're going in the wrong direction. Members have intellectual, emotional, and financial needs to be met, are the leaders submiting to them in this way?

One-way submission can make tyrants out of leaders. Two-way submission is Biblical. c-;

Singapore: Insurance Sector Still Under Regulated

There's an insurance manager who does 'pooling' ie. he closes sales and let it b put under his agents' name.

This way, he:
a. makes the unit's performance look good
b. gets promoted
c. evades income tax

There's no way he can b found out. He gets away scot-free - laughing (at the insurance co.'s ) his way 2 the bank! Ho ho ho!

Singapore: Workfare and Welfare

The west has much welfare. Singapore has gone to the other extreme.

We can strike a balance. Some welfare for some ppl and workfare 4 most ppl.

Those who'r seriously ill and really can't work deserves welfare. When u'r ill n u work, u might hv some 'dignity', yet u can make yrself more sick and in the end, pay even more to the doctors.

This is even more burdensome 4 the family as well as the state.

My Pastor III

The Bible teaches Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Gentleness, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, and Self-Control.

I look at my Pastor. He's not v caring, has no much joy, not very peaceful, v impatient and sensitive, aggressive, not so kind towards others, not much self-control (gets angry easily).

He can preach rather well and that's about it.

He's a pastor who preaches well bt doesn't pastor well.

Irony.

My Naive Client

My client mistook my favor for him as a 'service' that I must perform 4 him. His 'friends' sowed discord between our trust and he naively listened 2 his 'friends' instead of listening 2 me who told him the truth. I pity him. I feel sorry 4 him. One day he'll be gobbled up by his 'friends' whom he overtrust.

Hi All,

Yr friend can be yr greatest stumbling block.

Singapore News: Violent Behaviour during Soccer Match

With regard to the Siglap Secondary School's boy who fractured a Victoria School's player during a soccer game, the punishment by Siglap's Secondary School is obviously too vague. It will also not really help Siglap's schoolboy.

The penalty: Ban the schoolboy for one match.

What if he fractures another boy's jaw again in another game? Simply ban him for one more match again?

The penalty was to ban the boy for only 1 match, and after that to let him 'practise' his behaviour. Though well intended, that was not a good reason or a good way.

Simply, other people's sons are not for the Siglap boy to 'practise' his behaviour. Practise playing in his own school first, then consider letting him play again - with careful supervision.

What caused the incident? When Siglap's boy said he regretted it and 'didn't know why he did it' (or to this effect), it shows a cause that could be deep-seated.

The boy needs some kind of a psychological assessment and certainly counselling to see if he is suitable to play soccer, and if so, how soon.

Besides, has he been playing violent computer games? Has he been watching too much violent movies? Has the school taught their students sportsmanship? Was the school playing down the issue?

What kind of compensations has he made?

Bear in mind that, though that was a soccer game where accidents do happen, punching the opponent WAS NOT an accident.

The boy can still be handed over to the police or even sued in court for assault.

Singapore's Position as a Medical Hub

Our Minister Mentor Lee recently called for government hospitals to upgrade their quality and lower costs (or to this effect).

This triggered some thoughts in me.

I have seen much improvements in terms of service attitude in the government hospitals.

My question to the private hospitals is: What about you?

Are you going to do the same, or the opposite? i.e. raise costs and only maintain quality.

Example #1:
My friend complained that his appointment at a private hospital's clinic was at 3:30pm. He waited for one hour till 4:30pm. When the nurse had to go off at 5:05pm, which was later by 5 minutes of her official 'office hours', the nurse seemed very unhappy and her face became longer than a horse.

Example #2:
In a private hospital's clinic, a nurse spoke aggressively with her finger pointing rudely into my friend's face.

Example #3:
Without letting those who came earlier know, a nurse let a foreigner who was late consult the doctor first simply because 'she had another appointment'. Does it mean that the other people who came earlier had no commitments after that?

To make matters worse, when these were brought up to the management of the hospital, the response was, "For private clinics, there is nothing we can do about it."

Therefore, even though I see progress in the government hospitals, I see no progress or even a decline in the private clinics' standards.

Singapore News: 7 Property Agents

7 property agents were jailed 4 faking documents 2 get loans fm banks.

Unethical.

Some other property agents r also demanding, rude, and frustrated whn dey speak with u. The standards need 2b raised.

Of course, this agt fm a prominent co. in Singapore didn't get wht she wanted. With her demandingness, how long will she stay in the industry? hehe...

With a Demanding tone and u wan2 get something fm me? U must b dreaming!

The world belongs to the gentle and meek.

As the Bible says, "Blessed r the meek, for dey shall inherit d earth."

Look at all the truly successful leaders. Dey'r all gentle. The rough and arrogant don't last long.
:-)

Source of Stress

Spoke with Irene again yesterday. And for some reason that I think I've found out, I felt stressed again!!!

The probable reason is that she often ends the calls too abruptly, when u still hv things to say ...

Adding to her roughness, she was also using 'leadership words'
"WAKE UP! WAKE UP! WAKE UP!"

I responded, "Why do u kup kup kup? Talking like A DUCK?!!!" (laugh out loud!!!!)

I knew here for barely 2 months and she wanted to borrow money fm me! She was very shrewd. She started by, "I need your help ... " She pretended, "I think I better nt say in case we lose our friendship." She aroused yr curiousity. She added, "Let's forget it." Ppl wud tend 2 ask her what it was.

Finally, she said, "借" (lend me $ in Mandarin)

I've decided nt 2 b too close to her.

Neither b her enemy.

After all, we'r supposed to 'love our enemies as ourselves'.

Road Bullies, Spiritual Bullies

On the road, there're the 'road bullies'. In school, there're the 'school bullies'. In the church, do pray that there're no 'spiritual bullies'.

I've seen some 'matured' members with 'superior' Bible Knowledge (and that's about all they have) bullying members who'r newer with less Bible.

To b very fair, these r the minority and the black sheeps. U can find these ppl in ev'ry organization on this blue planet.

When Irene hangs up the phone, she never says 'Bye'.

She ends very abruptly.

Over your side, you would feel as if she slammed the phone, as if she banged the phone.

It's like an EARTHQUAKE over your side!

BANNNNNNNNNGGGGGGGGG...SLAAAAAAAAAMMM!

This woman, (hereafter called 'Irene', not her real name), admitted that she is a 'bull'.

This Woman ...

I got to know a woman in her 30's since about a month or so.

She's wants to get married but has not be able to. She complained about th men being 'no good', 'too critical of her' ... blah blah blah ....

And kept boasting about herself blah blah blah ...

When I looked at her, actually the challenge is in her. She is LOUD, ROUGH, DOMINANT, IMPATIENT, INCONSIDERATE, NEVER SAYS 'BYE' BEFORE HANGING UP the phone. Whatever goes wrong, she critizes the persons as 'sensitive'. (In comparison, she IS very INSENSITIVE)

She is HORRIBLE and TERRIBLE!!!

Moral: While/Before U criticize others, 1st look at yourself. While/Before U try to change others, 1st change yourself.

Sightings! My Pastor II

My Pastor was informed very politely that he was late 4 1 hr twice.

SUDDENLY, he became extremely defensive and LOUD,
"I'M SELDOM LATE! ....U KNOW HOW IT IS WITH A PASTOR!!!..INTERRUPTIONS..."

He was 'seldom late' yet he said 'u know how it is with a Pastor...'

拿着鸡毛当令箭

and he contradicted himself ...

He said everything but 'sorry'. What's the big deal in saying 'sorry' when you're late? Only when PRIDE hinders you.

Sunday came and he preached, "Speak the TRUTH in LOVE to one another .....so that we may be BUILT UP (or to this effect)....", "The fruit of the Spirit is Love, Joy, Peace, PATIENCE, GENTLENESS, ...", and "Be HUMBLE towards one another ......."

No wonder the church has not really grown much for many years (when another church in a remote area has grown to 15,000 in a short span of time).

When this happens, the Pastor says in a pious tone, "Salvation IS by the Lord ..." (i.e. none of his business.)

(laugh out loud)

Some OnLine Gamers

In On-Line games, there'r many PERVERTS.

These perverts seem emotionally imbalanced. They like 2 make rude, perverted, and sadistic remarks to try (let 'em *try*harder - the more dey try, the worse dey become) to disturb U. I hv great pity on 'em.

1 say he offers a special sexual service.
1 make a disturbed expression (trying to disturb u)
1 calls u 'my friend', bt is sarcastic.
1 get thrills out of ...

I don't even wan' to mention it ......and lots more.

Dey disturb becos dey 'emselves r disturbed ppl :)
Dey nd specialist help. :-)

God hv mercy on these PERVERTS.

I thank 'em for letting me get to know the true world bettr - what ppl say and do whn nobody is watching. Behind the screen, ppl reveal who dey really are. :o)

Culprit & Victim

When an offence is committed against the victim, the victim remembers.
Culprit forgets or pretends to forget. The reason is, Culprit is not the sufferer. Even if Culprit remembers, Culprit pretends to forgetso that the culprit can get away with it!i.e. 'Act Blurr' 'Act forgetful'.

Smart move. So Culprit thinks.

Victim can always do something back to Culprit.
Haven't us read in the papers or heard about people being stabbed, beaten up, being framed, windscreen smashed, child being thrown down from flats, army officer's eyes gorged out, officer being stabbed ........

There's always a cause to these. This' the law of CAUSE AND EFFECT. Therefore, don't MARK AROUND.

It's not simply "whatever is 'over' is 'over'".

Even if Victim doesn't take vengeance, God says, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I'LL REPAY." And that's a worse form of punishmentfor Culprit.

Pride to apologize genuinely and sincerely is form of idolatry. And the punishment for idolatry is to the THIRD AND FOURTHGENERATION!!! The 10 commandments say so. And the 10 commandments weren't written down for 'fun'.
People who have such pride are a pitiful lot. They don't know what they and their future generations WILL be getting!!

My observation is that people who says "whatever is 'over'is 'over'", when they themselves got hurt, remember the hurt and sought VENGEANCE!!!??

Didn't the person say "whatever is 'over' is 'over'"??

Singapore: What's Life?

While Chinese are celebrating Chinese New Year, I was asking, "What's Life? Why do people work hard all their lives and then, even with all the preventions, contract illnesses and return all the money they've earned to the doctor?"
A woman even had to sell her house, (Choy! Choy! Choy!) which she has worked hard to buy, to pay the doctor! She has always been health-concious, exercised regularly, eat carefully, rest adequately, relates well with people, and did many good deeds.
So why??? Are people on a big merry-go-round?

Singapore's Common (& cute) Excuses

Laugh if you want.

The most famous of all - 'busy'.

Nurse Grace exclaimed with a twisted pronunciation,
"Today I'm so bg bg bg... (pronounced 'b' and 'g'. She meant 'busy')"
I said, "Be careful with your diction. Some men might mistake you for saying 'Today I'm very bitchy bitchy bitchy ..."
:-))))

---
When Property Agent Joanne wants to end the call. At 9 pm,
"Oh, I've not seen my mum for a long time. I'm going now.
.... I'm now at the doorsteps......."
So filial(?)
Then why didn't she go at an earlier time so that she could stay longer at her mum's place?? Y leave the mum as the LAST PRIORITY of the day?? :o)))

When u'r at doorsteps at 9pm, you 'll probably reach your
mum's place by about 9.30 pm. How long can u stay there
then? Mums need to sleep early - you know? (Her mum is
>80 years old!)

---
My friend Joe didn' want to go to a meeting. So SUDDENLY,
"My relatives at 9am have arrived in Singapore, (WITHOUT
any advance notice), and I've to entertain them.....so I can't
go down......" :o)))

---
U call up a clinic nurse Wendy and greet by asking, "How r You?"
Nurse answered: "I'm with a patient (- period)."

My Question: How long does one need to have the courtesy to say 'Fine. Thank you.'??
:o)))

---
Pastor Peter: 'I am in a real hurry to fetch my wife....'
After that, he was seen talking to another PASTOR for half an hour....(He was in a REAL hurry...???) :o))))))

---
A preacher preached beautifully on humility, gentleness, and patience. Everybody was impressed.
After the sermon, somebody asked her a question. She
retorted, "YOU ASK ME, AND WHO DO I ASK?!!!"
:o))))))

---
Leader Simon was late by half an hour.
Excuse: "oh ... we were
delayed by the children...."

Why didn't you wake up earlier then?
That was not all.
The next week, somebody was late for 5 minutes and the
leader asked, "Meeting is at 9 am - not 9.05....U'r late!!"
:o)))))

---
Preacher Peter didn't prepare for his sermon. So he went up to the pulpit and blasted an illogical unstructured sermon.
When confronted by the Senior Pastor, he gave this excuse in a very pious tone,
"...Be led by the Spirit........"
Senoir Pastor said with a smile, "In future, be prepared, and the Spirit will lead you better......."

Singapore Entrepreneurs

Singapore Entrepreneurs need more flexibility.

A certain major Christian Bookshop in Singapore
is so rigid that even when there was an
opportunity for them to make profits,
they said, "Normally, we don't do this."

'Normally'? That means not all the time!
Can't you do something new??
Can't you be creative?
Can't you be flexible?
Can't you see new opportunities?
Are u a machine or a human?
R u a robot?

Singapore: O Doctors!

Doctors and nurses have among the poorest
'service mindset' which we emphasize today.

Surprisingly, the private sector is worse off.
The reason is that the doctors and nurses are
old ones formerly from the government sector.
They bring with them the old attitudes when they
move from the government sector to the private.

Yet, they charge higher??? for poorer service.

Some doctors aare arrogant even though their
expertise are either mediocre or poor.

They expect great respect but give very little to
patients. Yet, the charges are high???!

Kidneys Affected 'Heart Donations'

'Heart Charity' donations only grossed about $2 Million - only two-thirds, a far cry from their target of $3 Million.
NKF saga affected much.
i.e. the 'kidneys' of Singapore affected the 'heart'.

This is in line with
Traditional Chinese Medicine theory!

The whole body is related.
Take care of the whole body of Singapore.

The Best Time of the Year

Readers,

Have a JOYOUS Christmas!

Talk About Gracious Society

Recently, I attended a seminar.
WHILE the speaker was speaking,(large crowd) 2 persons, 1 guy and 1 girl, both middle aged, behind us were speaking to each other - giving commentaries about the speech - having their own seminar!!!
Even when they received stares from people, THEY COULDN'T BE BOTHERED, and kept talking happily, as if to say, "You don't like it? I will do MORE!"
And all these in a seminar in front of many people.
Hah! Talk about a gracious society.
We can be a gracious society - when we educate or rid these disgusting and inconsiderate people.

Bae Yong Joon

Besides him being handsome,
can people tell me,
why even the Arab ladies
have become this Korean Actor's fan?

NKF

Will you still support NKF, Renci etc?
